A newspaper article in The Quincy Daily Herald (Quincy, Adams County, Illinois) dated 19 Jan 1867 (p. 4) reads, "Died, November 27th, 1866, in Los Angeles, Cal., after a short illness with malignant dyptheria, Syrena D. daughter of James W. and Eliza Ann Cate, aged three years, six mos. and twenty-nine days."
