Betty Rodgers Sherrer, 88, of Oneonta, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Mrs. Sherrer was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Joseph Lorenzo Rodgers and Mrs. Pauline Ann Brown Rodgers; her brother Joseph Winfield "Buddy" Rodgers; her husband Wayman Gray Sherrer.
She is survived by her two children. A daughter, Elizabeth Sherrer McKee, Elizabeth's husband, George Barringer McKee, III and their two children, Margaret Estelle McKee, and Benjamin Sherrer McKee, of Garner, North Carolina. A son, William Jefferson Sherrer, Jeffs wife, Holland White Sherrer, and their two sons, William Jefferson Sherrer, Jr. and Gray Holland Sherrer, of Vestavia, Alabama. Other survivors include her three sisters, Joanne Rodgers Jenks, Emporia, Kansas, Dr. Flo Rodgers Graham, Dublin, Virginia, and Joyce Rodgers Haddock (The Honorable Donald May Haddock, Sr.), Alexandria Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graduate of Radford College in Radford, Virginia, the University of Alabama, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Mrs. Sherrer was employed as an educator most of her adult life, serving as a teacher, administrator, librarian and Psychometrist. She was active in several civic organizations in Oneonta and was a member of Lester Memorial Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sherrer will be held at Lester Memorial Methodist Church on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 3:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.
In remembrance of Mrs. Sherrer's life, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the Oneonta Foundation For Educational Resources, in lieu of flowers.
