George Lignos, age 64 years, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at his home in Delaware Township, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Newark, NJ on Sunday, March 7, 1954 to Mary (nee Mavrode) Lignos and raised in Dumont, NJ, before moving to Flemington, NJ in 2009.

Working for many years in the restaurant business, he did every job that was possible in food service. His strong work ethic and keen business sense allowed him to own and operate a successful pizzeria, the famous, "Corleone's" located in Edgewater, NJ.

George was a member of the Saint Anna Greek Orthodox Church in Flemington, NJ, where he served as one of the basketball coach's for the youth group. He enjoyed his time with the children, watching them have fun and learn the sport at the same time.

A sense of humor which lit up any room, George loved telling jokes. He was a true "people person" and enjoyed everyone he encountered.

His friendships were based on a mutual respect for the other person, and George was known to be a great listener. George's broad knowledge and inquisitive mind made the topics of politics, science, space, sports and faith fun and easy to talk about. In fact, he would talk about almost any topic as he loved to learn.

George's legacy however, is that of family. An old Greek adage says, "The family is the first essential cell of human society." George knew and understood the meaning of this and dedicated his life to being a devoted and loving son, uncle, cousin, brother and friend. He was most proud of his nieces and nephews and often referred to them as his true pride and joy.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Andrew Hios; his nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Stephanie, John S., William M., Katrina, William J., Lauren, David, Nina and Lily; many extended family; and many cherished and devoted friends.

The funeral liturgy performed by Father Anastasios Kousoulas was private at Saint Anna Greek Orthodox Church, 85 Voorhees Corner Road, Flemington, NJ 08822 under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.

Burial was private in the family plot at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 69 Capner Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.

Please visit George's permanent memorial site at www.wrightfamily.com where one can light a candle and leave a message of condolence and words of comfort, as well as share stories and photographs of his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the, "St. Anna Iconography and Beautification Program," c/o the church at the address above.
