A son of Mark Umholtz Schreiber and Lillie Irene Klinger.

Siblings: William Henry, Dorothy Mae, Mark Otis, Charles Edward, Ethel Irene, Edith Ann, Cora Jane, Ray Melvin, Loretta Marie, Myrtle Jean, Calvin Carlos, and Robert Franklin Schreiber.

He was married twice, but first had a child out of wedlock with Bertha Arnold. His first marriage was to Shirley Paul and his second was to Mary Elizabeth Poore.

Children: A son, Kenneth M. Schreiber with Bertha Arnold. A daughter, Joann Marie Schreiber from his marriage to Shirley Paul. Four children from his marriage to Mary Elizabeth Poore: Mary Elizabeth, John Albert Jr., Harvey Mark, and William Schreiber.

Cause of death: Accidental shooting and a subsequent abdominal hemorrhage.
