A son of Mark Umholtz Schreiber (1899-1964) and Lillie Irene Schreiber (1900-1987).

Siblings: William Henry, Dorothy Mae, Charles Edward, Ethel Irene, John Albert, Edith Ann, Cora Jane, Ray Melvin, Loretta Marie, Myrtle Jean, Calvin Carlos, and Robert Franklin Schreiber.

He was a World War II veteran, having been a sniper in the US Marines. However, he must have witnessed terrible things because he returned an unhappy, depressed man and the effect remained with him for the rest of his life.

He never married. I feel that this was because he didn't want to bring his suffering on any wife.
