Funeral services for Effie F. Smith, 83, of 280 West Main Street were held at 10am Staurday at the Spague Funeral Home with the REv. Stanley E. Brown, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.
She died Wednesday afternoon, August 12, at 3:30pm at the Edward John NOble hospital where she had been admitted the previous day. She had a stroke a few weeks ago.
Effie smith was born at Gouvernreur on July 23, 1876, a daughter of the late Brayton and Melissa Washburn Smith. She attended Gouverneur area schools and later worked on the staff of an Alexandria Bay hotel for many years. She retired years ago.l
Surviving are a daughter, Beulah B. Smith, a brother John B. Smith, and a nephew, Fay Smith of Hermon.
Bearers were Maurice Shattuck, Fred LaDuke, Milton Dusharm, Stanley Ferguson, Archie Spaulding and Douglas Gamble.
