JoAnn was born July 2, 1963, in Beeville, Texas, to Henry "Bailey" Whelchel Jr. and Jeanette Earline (Sliva) Whelchel. She was a 1981 graduate of Skidmore-Tynan High School. Immediately out of high school, she started her career in the banking industry, and ended her career with final employer, JP Morgan & Chase. She enjoyed reading, spending time with family, especially visiting her mom and dad at their residence on the Lake in Mathis; she loved eating her mom's wonderful cooking, and she cherished her time with her good friends, and JoAnn so enjoyed spoiling all of her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanette and Bailey Whelchel Jr.; and her best friend, Linda Henkhaus. The three of them all welcomed her with open arms.
Left behind to cherish fond memories include two sisters, Joy Whelchel of Universal City, Texas, and Barbara (Jerry) Richardson of Matagorda, Texas, their son, Brent (Shelby) Richardson of Richmond, Texas, and their two daughters, Audrey and Kennedy; a brother, Ron Whelchel of Huntsville, Texas; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Beeville Memorial Park with Pastor Tim Stowe officiating.
