Dolores Acurio, 91, of Winchester, VA passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at The Village at Orchard Ridge (Orchard Woods Health Center) after courageously enduring a series of illnesses.

Dolores was born in 1925 in Seattle, WA, the daughter of the late Alois and Julia Krininger, the second youngest of nine children. She attended Queen Anne High School and enjoyed working for the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1951 she met the love of her life, John Acurio, a talented young engineer with Boeing. They married on June 28, 1952 in Seattle, WA and together raised 4 daughters. Over the 65 years of marriage, they lived in various places, starting in Seattle, WA, then moving to the Philadelphia, PA, area, followed by a move to Strongsville, OH, as a result of John's career advancements. Upon his retirement in 1992, they moved to Port Orchard, WA to return to their love of the Pacific Northwest and the Seattle area. In 2010, Dolores and John relocated to Winchester, VA, to live in close proximity to family. Dolores showed deep devotion to her family and gave generously of her time to church, community and school activities. She will be most remembered for her giving heart, gracious personality and encouraging spirit.

Dolores is survived by her beloved husband, John; sister Mary Krininger (Seattle); daughters, Diane Acurio (Eben) Trevino (Warrenton, VA); Mary Ellen (Craig) Payken (Midland, TX); Joan (Bud) Divens (Clarksville, VA); and Charlotte (Nate) Sanson (Raleigh, NC); seven beautiful granddaughters Julia (Bryan) Mabee (Midland, TX); Claire (Gil) Gonzalez (Los Alamitos, CA); Hannah Payken (Midland, TX); Alison (Chris) O'Connor (New Market, MD); Laura (Dan) Zambrano (Atlanta, GA); Molly Divens (Frederick, MD); and Gina Sanson (Durham, NC); 6 wonderful great grandchildren Daniel and Clark O'Connor; Blake and Brooke Gonzalez; and Will and Meredith Mabee.

The Acurio family extends deep appreciation to the staff at The Village at Orchard Ridge, as well as Blue Ridge Hospice for their tender care of Dolores during her residency there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3rd, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Winchester, Virginia. Interment will be private.
