Robert William Buck was the son of William Buck and Margaret Kitchen Buck. he married Sarah Heacock Joice, daughter of John and Mary Clark Joice, in Chester, Pennsylvania June 14, 1852. Robert was a paper mill worker in Pennsylvania. In 1858, he moved to Delaware and lived in Rockland. He was a private in the Civil War with Company G, 5th Delaware Volunteer Infantry. He left the paper mills to operate a small general store in Rockland. He had six children, two of whom were daughters who died in childhood.
