Joseph Allison Buck was the son of Robert William Buck and Sarah Heacock Joice Buck. He married Elmira Howell Benson November 17, 1891 at her parents' home in Rockland. When they were first married they shared a house with Joseph's sister Anna Mary and her husband Frank Ezra Haley in Wilmington. When his father died in 1892, Joseph moved to Rockland to operate the family general store. His mother and his unwed sister Margaret Annetta Buck lived with his family there. He and his wife had six children: Frank Haley Buck, Robert Manuel Buck, Marion Annetta Buck, Joseph Allison Buck, Jr., Pauline Buck, and Dorothy Elmira Buck. In 1913 the family moved to Jackson Street in Wilmington, where he continued a grocery business. He died at age 50 from a mastoid infection.
