Sarah Jean "Sally" Rains, 80, of Atchison KS died on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at her home surround by family.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, at the First Baptist Church.

Sarah was born on November 16, 1942, in Horton, KS, the daughter of Vernon T. and Mary M. (Ipe) Highfill. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1961. She earned her degree in nursing from the St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1963. Sarah worked as a Labor/Delivery nurse, nurse manager and a house supervisor during her 38 years of nursing at the Atchison Hospital. She was a former member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, antiques, and spending time with children, grandchildren and especially her cat 'Smoke".

She was married on August 27, 1965. He survives. Additional survivors include a son, three daughters, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
