One last ride for our first four-legged hero

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of K-9 Disco on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.

After 14 faithful years, K-9 Disco took one final ride with his partner, and best friend, Assistant Chief Pete Nielsen. The two visited their favorite places, reminisced on their over 1,000 deployments together, and even flashed those lights one last time together. A send-off worthy of a hero.

K-9 Disco was the West Fargo Police Department's first ever K-9 Officer, who recently celebrated his 14 birthday. K-9 Disco retired in 2018 after seven years of service and enjoyed retirement with Assistant Chief Nielsen, who was instrumental in starting the K-9 Unit here in West Fargo. K-9 Disco had more than 1,000 deployments, assisted numerous agencies in felony arrests, seized millions of dollars in drugs, tracked missing people, and had the back of Assistant Chief Nielsen – and our whole department.

K-9 Disco set the standard. Thank you for being our department's first K-9, and our best friend. Your selfless service to our department will never be forgotten.
