Cornelia Jane Brown Phillips was the wife of James Allen Phillips. Cornelia was the daughter of Calvin Brown and Eunice Hinshaw Brown of Randolph County, NC. Cornelia was raised in Holly Spring Friends Meeting near Ramseur, NC. Allen was a carriage maker. She and Allen had five children - Carson P., Isa Eunice P. Beal, Roxie P. Asbil, Eppie P. Shoap, and Clatie P. Wright. Something happened in 1884 and Cornelia and Allen both died (probably tuberculosis). My grandmother was Isa P. Beal. She had the markers put down herself when she became an adult and a cousin still has the receipt for them. Cornelia's marker has her name spelled incorrectly as "Carnelia". My grandmother told me that an uncle and aunt raised her but I never thought to ask her who they were. She died in 1960 when I was 14. I have some of Cornelia Phillips writings today. She had copied stories in poetic form. She has signed them with her name and some are dated 1874. She had a beautiful penmanship.
