Cora was the fifth of nine children. She met Constantine "Gus" Panagakos when they both worked at a restaurant. They were married at Kingston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, on September 3, 1920 by a Justice of the Peace, and in 1937 remarried at the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary in Wilkes-Barre. The couple raised seven children: Sylvia, Steve, Frossine, Vaselo, William, Ana, and George.
When I asked her about her courtship she said she worked with my Grandpa, and he was a reliable worker and a very kind man. He would often ask her to go for a walk after work. Since he was a recent immigrant from Greece and spoke broken English, she didn't understand much of what he said. One day they walked by the county court house and he kept pointing to the building, then she finally understood that he was asking her to marry him.
Grandma was a devoted soap opera fan! She would get up early in the morning and begin her housework so she could finish by noon and spend all afternoon next to the radio (and later, in front of the television) listening to "her stories."
