Her father was Daniel Clayton, born on April 6, 1780 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England and died in April 1861 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England at the age of 81 years. He was a weaver in a cotton mill.

Her mother was Elizabeth 'Betty' Thrift, born on March 31, 1790 in Bury, Lancashire, England and died in January 1874 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England at the age of 83 years.

Her parents were married on October 17, 1808 at St. Michael's Church in Ashton-Under-Lyne. They had 13 children and Lucy was the second youngest, being born on April 22, 1828 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England.

Some of her siblings converted to the Church of Latter Day Saints (Morman) and emigrated to the United States.

She married Robert Dennett in April 1853 at the age of 25 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England. They emigrated to the USA May 23, 1884 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had 6 children. She was a cotton weaver in England and her husband was a bricklayer.

She died on November 7, 1901 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA at the age of 73 years.
