Jesse Lee Pender was born on December 1, 1945, in Baldwin, FL, to the late Ernest Pender, Sr., and Willie Mae Shannon. Jesse was the second child born from this union. As a child, Jesse "Pumpkin" Pender grew up in Baldwin, FL, and attended the Duval County public schools in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from the Old Stanton College Preparatory High School in 1964 where he was a member of the Steerage Committee.

Staff Sergeant Jesse Pender was inducted into military service on May 19, 1966, and bravely served in the military until his December 15, 1997, retirement. He then went on to further his passion for industrial arts and studied to become a certified welder. With this certification, he traveled to several different countries working as a welder until he retired and came back home to Baldwin, FL.

He was preceded in death by his late parents, Ernest Pender, Sr., and Willie Mae Shannon; son, David Pender; siblings, Jerome Pender, Donnell Black, Connell Black, Ernest Pender, Jr., and Debra Black; loving aunt, Eunice Gunter; and cherished cousin, Gregory Holland, Sr.

Jesse was a devoted father to his "Pumpkin Patch," Annanesa, Natasha, Yolandra, Natalie, and LaShawnda. They were his greatest gifts from God, and he took pride in being their father. Jesse's greatest loves were his children, grandchildren, family, and military life. He was committed to serving and being an active member and philanthropist in the community.

Staff Sergeant Jesse Lee Pender honorably served over 31 years between the United States Army and the National Guard where he successfully completed two hardship tours in Belgium and Korea during his career. He eventually retired from military service and worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron where he traveled as a welder.
