He is a World War II Army veteran and is a retired chemical operator from Allied Chemical Barrett's Division. He is of the Protestant faith and attended Wayne Co. WV schools. He is a member of VFW Post 8850 Ironton and has lived here since he was 17 years old.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, Reba E. Dean Gillespie who passed away in 1997;
three sisters, Donna Gillespie, Alice Ball and Narvie Gillespie;
three brothers, Dewey, George and Ray Gillespie.
He is survived by
his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Linda Gillespie of Ironton;
two grandsons and wives, Alex Brian and Lydia Gillespie of Ironton,
Eric Troy and Denise Gillespie of Woodstock, Ill;
Two great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Rachel Gillespie of Ironton;
Six sisters, Jewell Murnahan of Ironton, Effie McFann of Ironton, Gladys Cox of Pedro, Clara Wilson of South Point, Haley Howell of Florida, Ruth Adkins of Oak Hill, Ohio;
Two brothers, Herschel Gillespie of Ironton and Ira Gillespie of Medina, Ohio.
