Son of William and Jane Martin. He married Martha Jersuha Finney and was the father of Edward, Amanda, Dewitt, Michael, James, William, ELizabeth, and Bertha. William's actual rank during the Civil War was First Sergeant, 36th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Woods'), Confederate States Army. He did serve as Captain/Acting Commissary of Subsistence.
