Ralph Albert Sundby was born on Dec. 14, 1919 on St. Joseph's Island, Ontario Canada. He was the fourth son of Olaf and Helen Olsen Sundby. Ralph left this earth on Sept. 13, 2005 to be with his beloved wife, Margaret, in the heavenly Kingdom of God.

Ralph graduated from Dover High School in Dover, Ohio. He earned an Industrial Engineering degree from Texas Tech University in 1949. He was an insurance representative for Employers Casualty Co. and retired after 30 years.

He was a pilot for the U.S. Army Air Corps. While stationed in Childress, Texas, he met his wife of 59 years, Margaret Anne Barnett in the Spring of 1945. They married at her parent's home on Nov. 2, 1945. Ralph loved the intellectual conversations with his coffee buddies, the challenging game of golf, and traveling with his wife and good friends.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was an honest, gentle, and kind man; a loving husband, father and "PawPaw".

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, and three brothers, Clarence, Otto, and Oscar. He is survived by his son Stephen and wife Bonnie of Boerne, Texas, and daughter Susan Edgar and husband Rox of Hockley, Texas, and grandchildren, Darcy and Joe Edgar, Sean and Eric Sundby. Also surviving is his brother-in-law, James Barnett and his wife Merle, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and niece Dr. Joanna Gibson of College Station, and nephews Rusty Barnett of Denton and Ron Barnett of Lubbock.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thurs. Sept. 15 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory in Abilene, Texas. A celebration of Ralph's life will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech, Abilene, Texas with entombment in Elmwood Memorial Park Mausoleum.
