Lou Ellen Austin

Funeral service for Lou Ellen Austin, 75, formerly of 1506 Delano Road, will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold M. Wingo officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston.

Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home, where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30. Friends may also call at the church an hour prior to the Friday service.

Mrs. Austin died Tuesday at 1:30 a.m. at the Springfield Care Center after an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 22, 1906 in Washington Court House to O.W. and Caroline Garnes Sanders. On June 23, 1923, she married Elijah Austin, who died Oct. 5, 1973. She taught Sunday School and attended the Zion Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, St. Elizabeth Chapter 6.

Surviving are six sons, George and Melvin, both of Columbus, the Rev. Bonfiles Austin, Yellow Springs, Homer, Frankfort, John and Richard, both of Chillicothe; eight daughters, Gertrude Cousins, Alberta Cousins and Aretta Valentine, all of Chillicothe, Bessie Thornton, Pittsburg, Pa., Charlotte Vaughn, Xenia, Sylvia Tanner. Jackson, Shirley Smith, Columbus, and Connie Austin, Canal Winchester; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granchildren.
