FUNERAL OF DR. BERNARD. - The funeral of Dr. Simon Bernard, the French democrat, who died in London on Wednesday week, took place on Sunday. Shortly before two o'clock in the afternoon a large number of persons assembled in Percy-street, Bedford-square, where Mr. Bernard had resided, with the intention of following his remains to the place of interment. At two o'clock, all being in readiness, the mournful procession started, some of the immediate friends of the deceased following the hearse in mourning coaches, while about a thousand persons, two-thirds of whom were foreigners, accompanied it on foot, walking four abreast. The procession proceeded along Oxford street and Edgware-road to the Paddington Cemetery at Kilburn, which had been selected as the last resting place of the exile. The coffin having been lowered into the grave, orations were delivered by MM. Darante, Schroder, and Pierre, on behalf of the French refugees; and by Messrs. Bradlaugh and Holyoake on behalf of the English Socialist body. The proceedings were brought to a close by cries of "Viva la République, Démocratique et Sociale." | Jackson's Oxford Journal, 6 Dec 1862

Dr. Simon Bernard, the French refugee, who was one of the conspirators in Orsini's attempt on the life of the Emperor of the French, five years ago, has just died in England, in a lunatic asylum. | The Bristol Times and Felix Farley's Bristol Journal, 29 Nov 1862
