Born in 1805 to William B. Becraft and Sarah McDaniel Becraft. She was an educator and nun. She was one of first African-American nuns in the Roman Catholic Church, and established a school for black girls in Washington, D.C.

In 1831 she joined the Oblate Sisters of Providence in Baltimore, Maryland, the first Roman Catholic religious institute for Catholic women of African descent. On September 8, 1832 she received the religious name Sister Aloysius.

On April 18, 2017, Georgetown University renamed Remembrance Hall after Sister Ane Marie (Aloysius) Becraft.

Her mother, father, and several siblings are buried at Holy Rood Cemetery in Georgetown, Washington, D.C.
