According to Holy Trinity Church historian Peter J. Albert, "Julia Ann Becraft married Plato Ferris (or Farris), a free black man, in 1832 at Holy Trinity. Later widowed, in 1847 she married Daniel Alexander Payne, a bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She died in childbirth within the year, and her infant daughter died months later."
