There is currently a debate over over whether or not Laney was the daughter of Dempsey and Martha Whiddon of Washington County, GA. We do know Laney married Max W Gandy 26 February 1829 in Montgomery County, GA. She and her new husband moved shortly after their marriage to Leon County, FL, where they purchased an 80 acre farm. On July 12, 1834, shortly after the birth of their second child they sold this land and moved across the county/state line to join family in Thomas County, GA. There they raised 10 children. 9 of which lived to adulthood. 6 sons & 3 daughters. All 6 of the sons served in the CSA. Only 1 perished in the war. They lived in Thomas County until their deaths in 1870.
