Lois Jean (McLain) West, 90-year-young Fort Gibson resident, was born April 16, 1933 on Wild Horse Prairie, (between Fort Gibson and Tahlequah) to Samuel and Lulu Mae (Peebles) McLain and received her eternal reward on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 in Fort Gibson with her loving family by her bedside.
Lois grew up in Fort Gibson where she attended school, graduating from Fort Gibson High School. She married her best friend, Albert Lee West, on November 22, 1952 in Muskogee, OK. Lois loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and had the most important job of being a homemaker. She enjoyed her garden and canning her vegetables. She was the best cook and loved to feed and entertain the family on any occasion. Most people, including all her kids and grandkids, knew Lois as 'Nanny'. Her family was her passion and her love and devotion were evident in everything she did for them.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel H. and Lulu Mae McLain; her husband, Albert Lee West; daughter, Brenda Kay White; great-grandson, Ryan Satterfield; and numerous brothers and sisters.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Clifford W. West and wife Johnie Lu (Shannon) of Fort Gibson, OK; daughters, Jan Thornton and husband Travis and Debbie West Cato, all of Fort Gibson, OK; sister, Nancy Smith of Fort Gibson, OK; granddaughters, Michelle Parrott and husband Brent of Muskogee, OK; Stephanie White of Tulsa, OK; Mandie Hawkins of Tulsa, OK; Jamie Martin and husband Wade of Colcord, OK; and Jessica Boling and husband Dillon of Colcord, OK; grandsons, Zack West and wife Katherine of Muskogee; Rodney Thornton and wife Christine of New York; and Garrett Thornton and wife Nikkie of Fort Gibson, OK; extended family and friends.
Viewing for Lois will be Thursday, August 10, 1PM-7PM, Friday August 11, 9AM-7PM, Saturday August 12, and Sunday August 13, 1PM-5PM at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson.
A celebration of Lois' life is scheduled for 9AM Monday, August 14, 2023 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Chaplain Jeff Chalakani officiating.
Committal prayers and interment will follow in Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson with Garrett Thornton, Zac West, Dillon Boling, Kenny Goforth, Karson Goforth and Alex Saterfield serving as casket bearers.
The family of Lois Jean West has entrusted her care, services and burial to Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson.
