James Gradion Henry, 80, well known resident of Ripley and Tippah County and much loved husband, father, brother and "Paw-paw," passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Sunday morning July 22, 2018, surrounded by family following a brief illness.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Henry will be at 11 AM Tuesday, July 24, in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Hall, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, officiating. Personal remarks will be given by Bro. Edd McCafferty. Burial will follow at Pogue Cemetery in Falkner.
Born November 7, 1937, in Blue Mountain, he was the son of the late Walter Thayer and Ida Beatrice Taylor Henry. Mr. Henry was a graduate of Palmer High School and was married May 20, 1960 to his beloved wife, Linda Mercer Henry, retired court administrator for 3rd Circuit District, who survives.
A Christian and devoted member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Blue Mountain, Mr. Henry served as a Deacon for over twenty years and was a former Music Director.
Mr. Henry will be remembered for his strong work ethic and was employed by companies in Tippah County that included Bilt-Rite Corporation and Gentry Gallery. Known for his passion of gardening and music, Mr. Henry will be greatly missed by his family, his church and his community.
Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8 AM until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by a daughter, Pam Hargett (Mike) of Falkner, four sons, Keith Henry of Falkner, Greg Henry (Debbie), Stacy Henry and Corey Henry (Dawn) all of Ripley, two brothers, Don Henry (Patricia) and Danny Henry (Roma) both of Blue Mountain, three sisters, Shirley Smith (Danny) and Carolyn Rooker, both of Blue Mountain and Ann Thomas (Ola) of Ingomar, his grandchildren, Jeffrey Moore (Mimi) of Ripley, Kevin Hargett (Brittney) of Myrtle, Ashley Presley (Josh) of Haleyville, AL, Candice Hendrix (Willie), Heather Rutherford (Cole), Cody Henry and Allyson Henry, all of Ripley, Joey Elliott (Nicolle) of Tupelo, Timothy Elliott, who is serving in Kuwait, Lauren Butler (Tyler), Tyler Henry (Paige) and Kylie Henry, all of Ripley and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Marie Thomas.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Barry Grisham, Chip Neal, Cole Rutherford, Curt Henry, Josh Presley, David Carter and Chris Rooker. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and men of his church.
The family request that memorials be directed to Macedonia Baptist Church, 203 Fairview , Ripley, MS 38663.
