Born Oct. 6, 1920, in Peoria County to Ernest and Elizabeth Schmidt Perkins, she married Edward J. Stenger on Oct. 19, 1939, in Kickapoo. He died Dec. 15, 1993, in Peoria.
She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and a son-in-law, George Pfiffner.
Surviving are two daughters, Patsy Pfiffner of Apple Valley, Calif., and Elaine (Scott) Edmunds of St. Louis, Mo.; five sons, Michael (Suzanne) Stenger of Monmouth, Ill., Stephen (Beverly) Stenger of Decatur, Jerome Stenger and George (Janet) Stenger, both of Brimfield, and Richard (Joy) Stenger of St. Louis, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate and salutatorian of Brimfield High School.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo and its altar and rosary society.
Betty loved spending time with her family. She had many interests including fishing, gardening, flowers, reading, cooking and baking Christmas cookies, traveling and celebrating birthdays with her children and grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo, with the Rev. Patrick Riordan officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. at St. Mary's Parish Hall, with recitation of rosary at 7:30 p.m. Further visitation will be from 9:15 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Parish Hall on Saturday. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Kickapoo.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
