Rae McCombs
September 27, 2019.
Rae McCombs passed away September 27, 2019 at his home in Harrison Hot Springs, BC., at the age of 78 years. Rae was a man of many parts--he taught math and ESL and facilitated continuing education for many, built a micro-hydro dam, nurtured a organic garden, fed flickers and finches, baked a healthy but tasty chocolate chip cookie, constructed a log house, single fathered three accomplished kids---and sang a beautiful opera and entertaining show tune. Whether it was the local grocer, a neighbor or his grandchild, Rae's genuine interest in people and the world meant he made warm connections with almost everyone he interacted. He saw good in everyone and took time to listen and learn about it. Rae was a storyteller and had a rich life to draw on. Rae was the third child of historic logger William (Buster) and Margaret McCombs of Harrison Hot Springs
Raised in Harrison, he spent summers at the logging camp at 10 mile, napping under trees and riding his horse Buckshot. His studies brought him to Vancouver, Lansing Michigan, Crosslake, MB., Valemount , BC., and Australia's East Coast. He travelled the globe; he chose to settle in the community he loved --Harrison Hot Springs.
Rae was predeceased by his parents, his sister Marion and his loving wife Anne McCombs. He is survived by a second wife, his three children and their families, his stepdaughter and her family, his brother and his wife and brother-in-law. Celebration of his life is held on Nov 23, 2019, at 1-4 p.m. at the Harrison Hotel. Please bring your stories.
BTW for those of you out there familiar with Harrison Hot Springs, BC there is a McCombs drive named after Buster McCombs...Cool :)
