Another venerable citizen has received his final call and this time it is H. Jefferson Carrico, one of the best known men of the western part of the county. His death occurred at 8:30 o'clock Thursday evening at Fancy Farm after an illness of some duration of old age and general debility. He was, at the time of his death, aged 80 years and 13 days, being one of the pioneer citizens of Graves county.

Born in Washington county, Ky. in 1829, he came to this county at the age of 9 years with his father Cornelius Carrico. He was one of the early settlers of the Fancy Farm section and has been one of the leading and prosperous farmers. He had probably done as much good for his community and neighbors as any one man. He was loved by all who knew him and there was scarcely a child of miles and miles around that was not familiarly acquainted with uncle Jeff Carrico.

The deceased was married in his early manhood days to Miss Mary Willett, daughter of Samuel Willett. His aged wife and three sons survive him. The result of the marriage was seven children -- four girls and five sons. All of the daughters and two sons are dead. The living sons are Joe and Lucius, of the Faris and Fields clothing firm of Mayfield, who is well known all over Western Kentucky.

Jeff Carrico was a faithful member of the St. Jerome Catholic church being one amoung the first members. The funeral was conducted from the church Friday afternoon by Rev father Haesley with burial at 5:30 o'clock in the St. Jerome cemetery.

Henry Jefferson Carrico was the son of Cornelus Carrico
(b. ca 1798 MD) & Theresa O'Bryan (b. ca 1797 KY) who married 1823 in Washington Co. KY and by 1840 were residing in Graves Co., KY.
Cornelius is often confused with the Cornelius Carrico (1772-1859) who married Susannah Shanks 1806 in Nelson Co., KY, but they are/were 2 different men.
Also, the picture on the page for Cornelius Carrico (1772-1859) is from St. Jerome's Cemetery in Graves Co., KY and has nothing to do with him as it promotes the confusion between the 2 Cornelius Carrico's.
