When John was a year old, his father, Col. Gilbert Christian (DAR Ancestor #: A021736 ), moved with his family to Sullivan County, Tennessee. They were the first settlement there, living on their Walnut Hill Plantation beside the Holston River, and the area began being called Christianville. The settlement grew and in 1802 became known as Kingsport, TN. A historical marker is placed there for Col. Gilbert Christian.

John Christian married Elizabeth Stockton, and they began their life together on Illwill Creek in Stockton's Valley, Cumberland County (now Clinton County), Kentucky. Stockton's Valley is named for Elizabeth's grandfather, Thomas Stockton.

All but one of John & Elizabeth's children were born in Kentucky, including: John Jr, Isabella Moffet Christian Couch, and George Anderson Christian. Around 1812, they moved 40 miles south to Overton County, Tennessee, where they had Pierra Louisa Christian Campbell.

A number of their adult children moved with their new families to the new Republic of Texas in the 1840s, including Isabella Moffet Christian Couch, George Anderson Christian, and Pierra Louisa Christian Campbell.

May 30, 1825 - John Christian is mentioned in his father-in-law's will, John Stockton (DAR Ancestor #: A110430 ).

Geneanet Community Trees Index names John Christian as having a death date of 1861 and having a spouse named Elizabeth Stockton.

My DNA reveals my connection to Elizabeth Stockton Christian's father, John Stockton (b.1763 VA);
therefore, my 3rd GGF, George Anderson Christian, is the son of Elizabeth Stockton Christian & John Christian,
not John Christian's brother, William Christian and his wife, Margaret Elizabeth "Betsy" Anderson,
as many had believed.
