Son of John R. Bowdish & Lydia Johnson; husband of Phebe Stanton [1805-1878]; Methodist Episcopal minister serving a number of churches in New York State; memorial window at Mt. Vision United Methodist Church, Mt. Vision, Otsego County, N. Y.Rev. Dr. William Sweet Bowdish was the son of John Reynolds and Lydia (Johnson) Bowdish. He was the husband of Phebe (Stanton) Bowdish. Phebe died May 3, 1878. Rev. Dr. Bowdish was a minister in the Black River Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Of their family of six sons and two daughters, five of their sons became ministers of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
