Donna Mae Turechek, 89, of Loveland, passed away on May 12, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society, Loveland Village. She was born on February 22, 1934, in Seneca, Kansas to Helen (Meyer) and Tony Tanking. In 1943 she moved with her family to Marysville, Kansas. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1952.

After graduation, Donna worked at the McGrades Radio plant, making radios used in airplanes for the military. She then worked for the City Manager for the City of Marysville as the City Water Clerk.

In 1955 she met the love of her life, Gene Turechek from Chadron, Nebraska, and a soldier in the United States Army based at Fort Riley, near Junction City, Kansas. They met at Kahan's Dance Hall. They married on August 9, 1955, in Marysville, Kansas. While Gene attended college in Chadron, Nebraska and Rapid City, South Dakota, Donna worked at the First National Bank in both cities.

In 1960 they moved to Rochester, New York where Gene worked as an electrical engineer for Eastman Kodak. They adopted and raised two children, Steven and Cheryl. Donna volunteered at her children's school for many years. She enjoyed life as a homemaker while raising her family with Gene.

As a family, Donna, Gene, and the kids went on countless R.V. trips, crisscrossing the United States from Fairbanks, Alaska to Key West, Florida. They also explored many Provinces in Canada. Donna enjoyed fishing with Gene whether they were biting or not. She taught the kids how to fish, just as easily as she taught reading and math. But Donna's favorite place was Rocky Mountain National Park. While vacationing there in 1976 Donna and Gene determined to permanently return some day.

That dream came true when Gene retired in 1989, and together they moved from New York to Colorado. They enjoyed viewing wildlife from their semi-rural home in western Loveland. They also bowled in two senior leagues in Loveland, where Donna was a league secretary. In retirement, they continued to travel by R.V. all around the country and ventured into northern Mexico. Donna had quite the green thumb as her house was filled with a variety of plants including many blooming African Violets.

Donna and Gene celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2015. Gene passed away in April of 2016. Donna then moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Loveland, where she enjoyed many wonderful years.

Donna is preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents, her brother Raymond and sisters Lela and Lila.

Donna is survived by her son Steven Turechek (Kim) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter Cheryl Quammen (Thomas) of Greeley, Colorado; granddaughters Amy (Matt) and Amanda (Blake) all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and grandson Justin of Greeley, Colorado.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted on May 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 1730 West 12th Street, Loveland, Colorado. A reception will immediately follow.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the dedication, professionalism and amazing care given to Donna by the nurses and staff at the Good Samaritan Village in Loveland.
