She confessed hope in Christ at an early age. Upon her move to Monticello, she joined Pilgrim's Rest A.M.E. Church where her membership remained until her death. She was a faithful and active member who served dutifully on the Usher Board until her health confined her to her home. She was also affiliated with Holmes Chapel Presbyterian Church through her children and received monthly communion in her home from Rev. Dr. Alford Branch.
She was affectionately known as "Madea" to many of her children and grandchildren. She was known as "Ms. Bert, "Aunt Bert" or "Bert" to family and friends.
She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. James Walton. Ten children were born to this union.
She leaves to cherish her memory one brother; Sonny Hall (Annie) of Monticello,Ar, two sisters; Vernell Binns of Detroit, MI and Ionia Ridgell of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her children- three sons; Willie (Gloria) Walton, Lee Drew (Kathy) Walton, Johnny (Irene) Walton of Monticello, Arkansas. Six Daughters- Birdie (Raymond) Henson of Little Rock, AR, Doris (Albert) Turner, Lillian (Lee) Brooks, Aretha (James) Brown, Carol Walton of Monticello, Arkansas and Michelle Walton of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. 32 Grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Holmes Chapel Presbyterian Church in Monticello, Arkansas. Family Hour will be 6:00pm-7:00pm at Holmes Chapel Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Monticello, Arkansas
