She was born April 8, 1928 in Buncombe County to the late John Henry and Jensie Mae Baker Cordell.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Jackie "Jack" Ballew; four brothers, Porter, Joe, Dewey and Jim Cordell.
Surviving are her seven children, Chuck Sexton of Asheville, Hedley Sexton, III and wife, Charlotte of Eugene, OR, Gary Sexton and wife, Wanda of Black Mountain, Ruth Moore and husband, Cliff of Asheville, Carolyn Bustle and husband, Rick of Weaverville, Kay Coyne and husband, Edward of Enka and Ray Ballew of Lenoir; ten grandchildren, Chuck Sexton, Jr., Christine Yoshimura and husband, Jon, Zeke Sexton, Brian Sexton, Kimberley Richardson and husband, Brian, Jeremy Moore, Christopher Moore and wife, Annie, Derek Moore, Brandon Bustle and Jensie Coyne; one great grand daughter, Isabella Yoshimura; brothers, Charlie Cordell and wife, Helen of Fletcher and Billy Cordell of Leicester.
Burial will follow in the Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
