Hazel passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family and beloved caregiver Margery at the age of 103. Born in Buhl, Idaho to Jack and Zoe Campbell, Hazel was the oldest of five sisters, Ila, Doris, Dorothy and Myrna, all predeceased. She graduated from high school in 1932 and married William Guy (Bill) Cleveland in 1933. Over her lifetime she lived in Idaho and California, most recently in Santa Cruz since 1955.

Hazel worked as the executive secretary in the Chamber of Commerce in Santa Cruz for over twenty years during the heyday of the Miss California Pageants, retiring in 1976. She and Bill loved dancing of all sorts and together taught square dancing, ballroom dancing and folk dancing for many years. In retirement, she loved traveling around the world to Europe, Australia, Mexico and China. She enjoyed the dancing activities at the Live Oak Senior Center and playing bridge with her many friends at the Mid-County Senior Center, right up through her 103rd birthday.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Bill. She is survived by her two sons, William and Fred, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 11, at 2:00 pm at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1818 Felt St., Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mid-County Senior Center, 829 Bay Ave., Capitola.
