He was baptized and confirmed at St.Peter's Lutheran Church at Elk Creek, NE. where he attened school. He joined the Navy in 1945, serving on the USS Logan. After his naval duties he attended the University of Nebraska and graduated with a BA in agriculture in 1951.

He married Anita Gadow on January 26, 1950 and they had three children. Steven, Sharon and Suzann. He also had 5 grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Nov. 3, 2000 at Bethleham Lutheran Church. Cremation was in Fort Logan National Cemtery, Lakewood, CO.
