August 16, 1950 - June 20, 2023

Joyce Gail Harris Barbour Mayhew, went to her heavenly home on June 20, 2023, after a year-long illness.

Gail was born August 16, 1950, in Fieldale, VA, to Barbara and Clyde Harris.

She is predeceased by her parents, her four sisters (Pearlie May Reynolds, Ida Dean Whitlow, Alma Gay Stultz, and Dovalee Shilling), her first spouse, V. Paul Barbour, Jr., and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Faith Thorne.

Left to cherish her memories are her spouse, Bicky Mayhew, of the residence; daughters Kirin Barbour Whitehead (spouse Brian) and Lyndsay Barbour Thorne (spouse Robert); grandchildren Abigail Hudson Whitehead, Wesley Paul Thorne, and Dominic Paul Whitehead. During her illness, she was cared for by Brenda Bass and Frances Howerton and the family extends their most heartfelt thanks to these wonderful women for their loving care. The family is also grateful for the nurses from Commonwealth Hospice, Paige and Alisha, who were instrumental in providing Gail comfort in her final days. Finally, the family extends thanks to Elizabeth Harris, FNP, of PATHS for the outstanding primary care she provided to Gail over the years.

Visitation will be held at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 6 to 7:30 pm.
