Lois loved to read and to share that passion with others. She enjoyed reading books to children and even loaned out books from her personal collection to people when the libraries that she worked with did not have them.
At the Baptist Center on Kraft Ave., between 1963 and 2016, she taught cooking and sewing classes, children's art classes, and adult arts and crafts. She also organized the Center's clothing room and coordinated semi-annual clothing give-away events, along with other team members, assisted thousands of individuals while sharing her Christian faith. Many people came to know the Lord at these events. She enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School at the center and got great joy out of organizing Christmas gift bags for the Baptist Center families and Easter egg baskets and egg hunts for the kids.
She received a Humanitarian Award in 1982 for distinguished service from the Panama City Jaycees and Jayceettes and a "Faithful Servant" award from the Baptist Center in 2016 for her many contributions to the center and the families it serves.
She loved taking care of her family and opening her home to others. Her love language was cooking for others including groups from local schools and churches. She delighted in making birthday cakes and wedding cakes for friends, family and even strangers. Some of her many other adventures included substitute teaching, volunteering with the Red Cross, and becoming a poll worker during elections.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Bell Patterson and Curtis Straughn and her husband, Richard T. Galloway. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Elaine Galloway Johnson, her second daughter and her husband, Patti and Chris Klinck, and her youngest daughter and her husband, Margaret and Donald Benedix.
She is also survived by her sister, Mavis Allen, her brother and his wife, Alto and Pat Straughn, her sister and her husband, Ann and Leon Van Zant, and her sister Carol Boland as well as 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
