He married on August 23, 1888, Reading, Pennsylvania, to Elizabeth Alice Deisher.
He attended DeTurk's school #1, named after his father, and attended 2 years at the Kutztown Normal School. In 1903 he built the modern hardware store located on Main Street, Kutztown. In 1925 he transferred the business to his son John W. DeTurk. Eugene was the editor of the 1934 DeTurk Family book, published by the DeTurk family association. Eugene and Elizabeth had twelve children.
