Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1930s. He was born as Zearlee Maxwell to Eddie Gordon and Marry Ann Maxwell in Cleburne, Texas, on August 16, 1902. He was educated locally, worked as a laborer, and later pursued a professional baseball career. He played the positions of third baseman, centerfielder, and second baseman, with the Memphis Red Sox making his professional baseball debut in 1937. The third 5'8" and 150lbs baseman, centerfielder, and second baseman, who batted right and threw right played with them through the baseball season of 1938. His 162 Game Average consisted of 20 Games Played, 591 Plate Appearances, 510 At Bats, 122 Runs Scored, 113 Hits, 8 Doubles, 16 Triples, 0 Homeruns, 65 Runs Batted In, 10 Stolen Bases, 0 Caught Stealing, 24 Walks, 0 Strikeouts, 0 Intentional Walks, 0 Hit By Pitch, 57 Sacrifice Hits, 0 Sacrifice Flies, 0 grounded Into Double Plays, .222 Batting Average, .258 On Base Percentage, .302 Slugging Percentage, .559 On Base Percentage Plus Slugging Percentage, and 38 Adjusted On Base Percentage Plus Slugging Percentage. Following his death, his funeral service was held at the Baker Funeral Home in Cleburne, Texas, and he was buried in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery in Cleburne, Texas. He was married to Othella Odoms Maxwell (1908-), with whom he had one child, a daughter named Helen Lucile Maxwell who was born in Cleburne, Texas, on March 16, 1927.
