Arleen Tipsword, 94, went to her Heavenly Home Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 11, 1928, to Dan and Maude Huffman on a farm near Randles.

She graduated from Randles High School in 1946 as salutatorian of her class. She married her sweetheart, Henry Cossiboom, in 1946, who came home from serving in the South Pacific during World War II, and they moved to Thebes, Illinois. To this union three children were born. Henry passed away in 1964 after 18 years of marriage.

Arleen was a member of the Thebes United Methodist Church. She also sang in the church choir.

After high school, her daughter moved to Springfield, Illinois, and Arleen and her two sons moved to Cape Girardeau.

She worked for a number of years at International Shoe Co. After several other jobs, she retired from Superior Electric Co. in 1978.

She was a long-time member of the VFW Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary in Cape Girardeau.

She moved to Scott City in 1978. She attended Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, where she met and married her husband, Loyd Tipsword, in 1985. She later became a member of the church.

Arleen is survived by her husband, Loyd Tipsword; daughter, Linda Bentley of Springfield; sister, Katheryn Kennedy of Edwardsburg, Michigan; four grandchildren, Shelly (Dennis) Alexander of Christopher, Illinois; Abby (Michael) Burch of Ozark, Missouri; Bryan (Andrea) Cossiboom of Walnut Shade, Missouri; and Tyler (Cassidy) Cossiboom of Scott City; seven great-grandchildren, Bradly and Alissa Farrow of Christopher, Cullen and Harper Burch of Ozark, Loften and Ryden Cossiboom of Walnut Shade and Caroline Cossiboom of Scott City; three stepgrandchildren, Glendron Stroup of Scott City; Krystal Enderle of South Side, Tennessee; and Darrin Bentley of Cape Coral, Florida; and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Vester "Bud", Daniel, Henry and Paul Huffman; a sister, Mildred Boster; two sons, David and James "Boomer" Cossiboom; and a son-in-law, Bob Bentley.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 12, at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the chapel with the Rev. Bob Lenz officiating.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Southeast Cancer Center.
