Roberto Begil, 87, of Hughson died of natural causes Monday at San Luis Convalescent Hospital, Newman.

Mr. Begil was a native of Carlsbad, N.M. He lived in Hughson 72 years. He worked for the city of Modesto as a maintenance engineer for 22 years. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his children, Robin Jamison of Modesto and Dorothy Gurrero of Hughson; sisters, Lena Campos of Newman, Frances Prowse of McCleary, Wash., June Burrell of Stockton, Chelo Fernandez and Connie Moreno, both of Modesto, and Lillian Redondo of Los Angeles; and 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Begil

The rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Eaton Family Funeral Home, Modesto. A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Modesto. Burial at Ceres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
