Adam Edwards the retired railroad man died at the home of his son Walter B. Edwards in Applewold. He had been ill some ten days with pneumonia. The deceased was for many years in the employ of the P. R. R. and was a retired pensioner of that company. He was 74 years of age and is survived by nine of his children.

The deceased was a member of Company K, 78th Regiment during the Civil War.

He had one of the most singular experiences and the most narrow escapes from death ever recorded some years ago while working on the PRR. Just above Union Avenue, this place, he fell under a moving locomotive. No one saw him go under but a brakeman on the rear end of the tender discovered his foot protruding and signaled the engineer to stop. When taken out excepting for the shock he was comparatively uninjured and in a few days was able to return to work.

Taken from an obituary published in a newspaper from Kittanning, PA

On the 12th of Oct 1861 Adam enlisted as a Private with Company K 78th Regiment Pennsylvania and on 26 Jun 1862 received a disability discharge from his Company.
