Death of Barney Conway.
The Funeral of Barney Conway of Overton, who died at that Place Thursday was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from McDougald's undertaking parlors. The young man had been very ill for eight weeks preceding his death with typhoid fever, but there was something unusual about his case which baffled the skill of the attending physicians and it was decided to hold a post-mortem examination. It was found that the cause of death was due not to the typhoid fever, but to an inflammation of the lining of the heart, together with a clot of blood on one of the valves. This produced a peculiar sound about the heart which the physicians were at a loss to account for.
The deceased was employed by the Sierra Wood and Lumber Company as engineer of the donkey engine, and was considered one of the best men in the employ. He was a man of exemplary habits and had many friends who will mourn his loss, and miss him from his accustomed place.
His long illness was spent in the company's hospital at Overton, where he was attended constantly by a professional nurse, and given the best of medical attention. But with such a condition of the heart existing it was impossible to save his life.
His relatives in Canada were notified of his demise, who requested that he should be buried by a Catholic Priest. Accordingly Father Gleeson, who was away, was notified and reached here last night for the purpose of conducting the last rites. Supt. Bliss ran a special train in from Overton, for the benefit of the any friends who wished to attend the funeral.
Deceased was 38 years of age.
