Calvin W. Heitz, 82, died about 10 p.m. Monday in the Branch County Health Center, Coldwater, after an extended illness.
He was a former resident of Fremont, serving at one time as superintendent of the Fremont schools.
Mr. Heitz also was a Spanish-American War veteran, a member of Co. H. of the 157th Regiment which was enrolled from Angola.
Surviving are the wife. Ethel; two sons, Dean Heitz, Mt. Morris, Mich., and Perry Heitz, Wyandotte, Mich.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Evangelical United Brethren church at East Gilead, the Rev. Raymond Yenkel officiating. Burial will be in the East Gilead cemetery.
