Nathan Morgan Woodard's birth date of 29 August 1843 is the one written 23 January 1848 from Henry Hyden Woodward to his children, mailed to his son-in-law John Thomas Grabill at Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri.

This is confusing. His brother, John Devers Woodward, also has a son named Nathan Morgan Woodward, born in the same year, same county. However, that Nathan Morgan Woodward went on to fight in the US Civil War and is buried in Texas.
