MOUND VALLEY -- Dave E. Myers, 70, of rural Mound Valley died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, in Ardmore, Okla. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.

He was born March 21, 1937, in Altamont to William "Will" and Naomi (Cortner) Myers. He grew up and attended schools in Altamont, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1955. In 1957, he purchased a farm west of Mound Valley, where he began his lifelong vocation as a farmer and dairyman.

He and Janet Lewis were married Aug. 9, 1957, in Bartlesville, Okla. She survives of the home.

He served 10 years on the RWD No. 6 Water Board, the Mound Valley Coop Board for four years and the Wholesale Water Board for 10 years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and collecting John Deere toy tractors.

Survivors include three sons, David Myers and his wife, Sherry, of Parsons, Mark Myers and his wife, Rita, of Mound Valley and Scott Myers of Dennis; a daughter, Cindy McGovney and her husband, Steve, of Cherryvale; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Ivan Myers of Oswego and Ben Myers of Dennis; four sisters, Wanda Mikel of Parsons, Esther Jones of Pittsburg, Irene Phillips of Dennis and Edna Bamberry of Altamont.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Doug Myers and Lester "Tim" Myers.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harmony Grove Cemetery in rural Dennis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
