Reggie Anderson's great talent in life was making and keeping friends. He was a great athlete, an avid golfer and a loving father as well. Anyone from elementary school friends to work colleagues who ever called him "friend" did so with uncommon respect and affection.
Reggie was born in Fort Worth and grew up on the east side where he excelled at sports from Eastern Hills Elementary school and Junior High to Eastern Hills High School. As quarterback, he led his high school team to so many impressive victories that he earned a football scholarship to Rice University where he also lettered twice in baseball. While at Rice, he had a very special blind date with the young woman who would become his wife of 33 years. Terri Enis and Reg Anderson met in 1973 and married in 1975. They had three beautiful daughters, Angela, Allyson and Ashley.
Knowing what a great athlete and "man's man" he was, most people would have expected him to want a bunch of rambunctious boys. However, Reg was absolutely crazy about his girls. He taught them all to play golf, coached all their sports teams, and was always 100 percent involved in their lives from diapers to graduation. For Reg, it wasn't about boys or girls, it was about teaching his kids to be the best they could be while having fun and laughing as much as possible. Kids, friends and family alike will remember what a prankster he was and that he always had a joke or a funny story to tell.
Besides friends and family, Reggie's other passion was sports. He was a dedicated golfer who was lucky enough to play some of the most famous courses in the world, including St. Andrews in Scotland (which he eagled the 18th hole). He also fulfilled a lifelong dream last year when he played in the Colonial Pro Am with daughter Allyson as his caddie. Reggie was a football official for 30 years, working one year in the Canadian Football League and recently retired after 15 years from the Lone Star Conference.
Reggie will be remembered as a man who loved God, family, friends, golf, sports and most of all, life. His last two years were spent courageously fighting cancer, but he never complained, never felt sorry for himself, and never let illness get in the way of doing what he loved. Reggie was preceded in death by father, Leroy Anderson, in 1999; and father-in-law, Bill Enis, in 1973.
Survivors: Wife of 33 years, Terri Anderson; daughters, Angela Ashford and husband, Jason, and their son, Robert Tucker Ashford, Allyson Anderson and fiance, Todd Crookshank, Ashley Anderson; mother, Dorothy Anderson; sister, Melanie Brunk and husband, Gregg; in-laws, Iris and Del Johnson, Hunter and Shirley Enis; sister-in-law, Judy O'Loughlin and husband, Ted; brother-in-law, Bart Enis and wife, Julie, Larry Enis and wife, Elaine; and niece and nephews, Erica Brunk Ladwig, Quinn Brunk, Blake, Taylor and William Enis.
