Billie Rose Strevel Shockley of Nolensville, Tennessee.
Born on December 3, 1931, in Luttrell, Tennessee, Billie Rose Strevel Shockley passed to her Heavenly home on May 11, 2023.

Born into the rugged hills of East Tennessee in the small town of Luttrell, Billie Rose grew up surrounded by music. She played piano and rhythm guitar and sang with her brother, Chester Atkins. Performing on WNOX's Midday Merry-Go-Round around the age of twelve, she recorded with Chester in 1950, before marrying and having three children. Music would continue to be a part of her life, as she wrote and even recorded for Reader's Digest years later. She passed on that love of music to her family and took much pride in the musical gifts of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Billie Rose completed the Licensed Practical Nursing program at St Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, inspiring two of her children to become registered nurses. After moving to Nashville in 1966, Billie Rose nursed at Saint Thomas Hospital and in the Burn Unit at Vanderbilt University Hospital. She gave excellent private nursing care to countless patients, including several couples, for the remainder of her career, while also devotedly caring for her various family members.

At the urging of patients, friends and family, Billie Rose began writing down her memories and life experiences. In 2011 daughter, Cindy, and granddaughter, Meagan, helped her compile these stories and published her book From The Hills of East Tennessee as I Remember It. It has brought smiles, laughter and tears to many who read about the good, but hard times that Billie Rose and her family lived through and overcame.

Preceded in death by parents, William Paris and Ida Ella Sharp Atkins Strevel; stepbrother, Jim Atkins; brothers, Chester (Chet) Atkins and Lowell Atkins; sisters, Niona Atkins Nisley and Willard Booker Stowers. Also preceded in death by sister-in-law, Leona Atkins who was more like a sister to Billie Rose; former husband of thirty years, Roy Shockley (died 05-30-2004 age 74 in Sumner Co.); sons, Mike Shockley and Tim Shockley; and grandson, Brian Roy Taylor.

Survived by daughter, Cindy (Phil) Taylor, Nolensville, TN; grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Taylor, Hohenwald, TN, Matt (Ashley) Taylor, Springfield, TN and Meagan Leona Rose (Chris) Anderson, Franklin, TN; and great grandchildren, Whitney Belle Rose Anderson, Ruth Anne Virginia Taylor, Benjamin Burton Lane Anderson, Abigail Nicole Lee Taylor and Natalie Ella Grace Anderson as well as many beloved friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
