Tim Mark Merrell Shockley, of Charlotte, Tennessee died on Friday, April 21, 2017 after a courageous and difficult battle with kidney disease. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on February 28, 1958, to Roy and Billie Rose Shockley, Tim was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Tim was a graduate of John Overton High School in Nashville and trained as an Operating Room technician at Baptist Hospital before graduating from Tennessee State University as an RN. Early on, he worked in the Operating Rooms at Baptist Hospital and Centennial Hospital. Tim excelled as a surgical first assistant throughout his career but was professionally and personally without peer during the last twenty years assisting Dr. Joe DeLozier and educating the many Vanderbilt residents and students who passed through.

Tim enjoyed hunting and riding his Harley-Davidson, spending time with his dogs and tending to his land and home in Charlotte, Tennessee.

Tim is survived by his loving mother, Billie Rose Shockley (Willie Redden); his faithful sister, Cindy and dedicated brother-in-law, Phil Taylor; nephew, Brandon (Katie) Taylor; nephew, Matt (Ashley) Taylor; niece, Meagan (Chris) Anderson; great nieces, Whitney Anderson, Ruth Anne Taylor, Abigail Taylor, Natalie Anderson and great nephew, Benjamin Anderson. Tim is also survived by his devoted friend, Marcia Griffin, his loving work family, cousins, friends and his loyal Labrador retrievers, Ella and Rose.

Tim was preceded in death by grandfather, Florn Shockley; grandmother, Lula Shockley; grandparents, Willie and Ida Strevel; father, Roy Merrell Shockley; brother, Mike Shockley; and nephew, Brian Taylor. His loyal and beloved Labradors, Harley and Shelby also preceded Tim in death.

Graveside burial service held at Sunrise Cemetery in Rutledge, Tennessee.
